We went out and about with our visitors and really enjoyed a day out in Kyrenia. We left Limassol early and parked the car in Nicosia, then walked across the border in Ledra Street to the TRNC. Visited the Buyuck Han (The Great Inn) in the old city which is an old Inn built in the 16th Century. After being used as a prison by the British, it was then used to house destitute families, and eventually reopened in 2002 after being restored. It now houses cafes, souvenir shops, handicraft shops, art galleries and workshops.

We then found out where we could get a shared taxi to Kyrenia which cost us all of €2 each. This was a small minibus which was driven at great speed through the traffic in the city and then through the mountain pass to Kyrenia. We enjoyed a beautiful relaxing lunch overlooking the harbour.
That is George and me on the left!
Just to finish the day off we took a taxi ride to
Bellapais Abbey and village.
The Abbey ruins were peaceful and beautiful, and after walking up a very steep hill in the village, we found the author Lawrence Durrell's old house "Bitter Lemons." The present owner's brother was there and showed us around the house.
Then it was back to Nicosia in the shared taxi, this time at a more relaxed speed!
On another evening we visited the Limassol Wine Festival. This is held every year and lasts for just over a week. There is a minimal charge for entry, you buy a glass for €1 and then can have it refilled for free at the wine stalls from 8pm until 11pm. Although there are lots of food outlets, we were not impressed by the meal we had, especially the long wait! However there is a great fun atmosphere and lots of music and dancing. We watched the guy treading the grapes, but didn't join in!
